here’s a straightforward breakdown of the steps:
used pet products, primarily bottles, are collected through recycling programs or waste management systems.
collected materials are sorted by type and color. non-pet contaminants are removed to ensure purity.
sorted pet is washed thoroughly to remove labels, adhesives, dirt, and residue. this is essential to ensure quality and purity.
the cleaned pet is shredded or ground into small flakes.
flakes undergo additional washing to further remove impurities. they’re dried thoroughly to eliminate moisture.
cleaned pet flakes are melted at high temperatures. the molten plastic is extruded into thin strands, then cooled and chopped into pellets or granules.
these recycled pellets (rpet) are then used to create new products, such as 1) fibers for clothing and textiles, 2) new bottles and containers, and 3) packaging materials.
